Internship for Academic Credit
Eligibility
Students may be eligible to receive internship credit when accepting of an internship requires the receipt of credit from the College.
To receive credit for an internship, a student must enroll in an internship course prior to (or while) undertaking the work (OLC250; ELT299; ELT399). No credit may be given, retroactively, for internship work undertaken in the past that is now finished via an internship course. (Consider incorporating prior internship experience into a portfolio for LIP credit)
The student must be a currently enrolled student who has completed at least one semester, but who has not yet graduated.
The internship sponsor must be able to engage you in at least 120 hours of work during the internship period.
The internship partner must be willing to evaluate your work and sign off that you completed at least 120 hours of work by the conclusion of the internship.
You must complete all internship hours in the same semester that you apply for academic credit
Credit earned through an internship cannot stand in for credit for a major course requirement. There may be limits to the number of internship credits you can apply to your degree requirements
Learning outcomes must be planned, shared, and demonstrated for credit
Every 45-50 hours worked equals one academic credit
Student must arrange a CU faculty member to oversee their academic credit for the internship
Students must have above a 2.0 GPA to be eligible for a for-credit internship
Steps to apply for Academic Credit
Secure an internship offer (that requires the earning of credit)
Complete the Internship for Academic Credit Form and send in all required materials to be enrolled in an internship course (OLC250; ELT299; ELT399) at least 5 business days prior to the start of the internship.
Note that the internship MUST be connected to specific learning outcomes connected to the Organizational Leadership and Change degree to qualify for academic credit.
The Provost’s office and Registrar will then issue a letter confirming the student’s enrollment to the employer and the student
If the employer requires a written statement of the internship credit policy prior to an offer being extended, the student should correspond with the Provost’s office as soon as possible.
Application for academic credit is subject to review and approval by the Office of the Registrar and the Provost’s Office.

Identify and secure a CU Faculty Internship Supervisor
You will be asked to provide this faculty’s contact information on the application.
Be prepared to provide information about the learning objectives and outcomes for the internship. The internship MUST be connected to specific learning outcomes connected to the Organizational Leadership and Change degree to qualify for academic credit. Be ready to answer:
What learning outcomes have you identified for this internship?
How do you plan to achieve these learning outcomes?
What existing skills, experience or knowledge will help you succeed in this internship?
In your view, how does this internship align with your academic and career goals?
