College Unbound was approved as the 13th college in the state of Rhode Island in May 2015 in an historic and unanimous vote by the Rhode Island Council on Postsecondary Education. At that time we began the process of seeking regional accreditation and after three years of extensive applications, interviews, and reporting, CU is officially “In Candidacy,” a status that is of major significance to both our students and to postsecondary education across the country. We are in the process of securing approval for our students to be able to apply for financial aid to fund their CU education through the Federal Pell Grant Program. NECHE’s decision to advance CU to this phase of accreditation also demonstrates the national importance of the work we do in providing adults with interest- and workplace-based Bachelor’s degrees.
