On Saturday, May 14, 2022, College Unbound celebrated its largest graduation ever at the Met High School in Providence, RI, with 35 graduates donning their caps and gowns to receive their Bachelor's degrees in Organizational Leadership and Change.
For those who were unable to attend, you can view the livestream of Saturday’s graduation on College Unbound's Facebook page.
At the ceremony, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse spoke to the CU community and presented a gift of $750,000 to College Unbound for a brand new Community Learning Center (CLC) in the heart of South Providence.
The CLC will serve as the new home of CU’s partnership programs with organizations such as Equity Institute, the United Way of Rhode Island, and Providence Community Health Centers, as well as CU’s Learning In Practice (LIP) program. Through these partnerships, the CLC will house credentialed learning pathways for teaching assistants, health care workers, and other professionals.
The CLC will enhance opportunities for residents of South Providence to gain college credit for their learning from community nonprofit trainings and experiences, accelerating their pathway to B.A. completion and professional advancement. In addition, the CLC will continue to seek out partnerships to support students who are less likely to pursue traditional postsecondary degree completion, especially formerly incarcerated students who are transitioning from prison and in need of support through reentry.
